1960 களில் அமெரிக்காவில் உருவான மாற்றுக் கலாச்சாரம் மற்றும் துணைக்கலாச்சாரப் (counter culture & sub culture) போக்குகளை எதிர்கொள்ள உருவான மானுட உள்ளாற்றல் இயக்கத்தின் நேர்மறை சிந்தனைகளிலிருந்து உருவான பல கருத்துகளில் தாம்பத்தியத்தை செறிவாக்குவோம், திறன்பெருக்கும் திருமண வாழ்க்கை, சிறப்பான திருமண வாழ்க்கைக் கருத்தாக்கமும் ஒன்று. இந்தக் கருத்தாக்கம் இயக்க வடிவம் பெற்று தம்பதியினரிடையே அர்த்தமுள்ள புரிதலை, திருப்தி தரும் உறவுமுறைகளை வளர்த்தெடுக்க பயிற்சிகள், கருத்தரங்குகள், உளவியல் உத்திகள் என்று கடைபிடிக்கப்பட்டு, நல்ல மண வாழ்க்கையை அமைத்துக்கொள்ளமுடியும் என்ற நம்பிக்கை நாடு முழுவதும் பரவலாக்கப்பட்டது.

Programs, which grew out of the human potential movement in the 1960s, to help couples achieve more satisfying and meaningful relationships with one another. A wide variety of formats, procedures, and techniques have emerged. Generally, the programs are group encounters that use techniques to improve communication and understanding. for couples whose relationships are not especially dysfunctional. A variation of marriage enrichment is relationship enrichment, using the same procedures but applying them to domestic partners, dating couples, and other family dyads. The Association for Couples in Marriage Enrichment (ACME) sponsors training programs, conferences, publications, and couples workshops.
