The Medical Analysis and Retrieval System, a program of the National Library of Medicine, National Institutes of Health (NIH). MEDLARS has computer interface with most medical and university libraries so that qualified professionals can have access to the relevant literature and a specific database. Such databases include MEDLINE (biomedical journal articles), TOXLINE (information about toxicity, environmental pollution, and adverse drug reactions), and CANCERLIT (the current literature about cancer studies). Costs are based primarily on the amount of computer time used.
