உடலியக்கத்தில் ஏற்படும் மாற்றத்தினாலோ, மரபணுக்களில் ஏற்பட்ட பழுதாலோ, உள்ளம் மற்றும் சமூகம் சார்ந்த காரணங்களால், ஒருவரின் உள சமூகச் செயல்பாடுகளிலோ, அறிதிறனில் பழுதோ ஏற்படும் நிலையை மனக் குழப்பம், மனச் சீர்குலைவு, மன நோய் என்று அழைக்கின்றார்கள். மன நோய்கள் அதன் அறிகுறிகளிலும், பாதிக்கும் திறனிலும், பாதிக்கும் கால அளவிலும், நோய் முன்கணிப்பிலும் ஒன்றுக்கொன்று வேறுபட்டவை. உணர்வுக் கோளாறுகள், மனச் சிதைவு, ஆளுமைக் கோளாறுகள், உடலியக்கத்தால் ஏற்படும் மனக் கோளாறுகள், பதட்டச் சீர்கேடுகள் என்று மனநோய் பலவகைப்படும்.
