One who has specialized training and skills in the nature and treatment of mental illness and uses them to provide clinical, preventive, and social services for people who have, or may be vulnerable to, a mental disorder. Mental health professionals include psychiatrists, psychologists, psychiatric registered nurses (RNs), social workers, and members of some other disciplines who provide special expertise and help for emotionally disturbed people.
