In a court of law, a trial that is ended and declared void before a verdict has been reached. This occurs most commonly because of deadlocked jury deliberations (when the jurors cannot achieve necessary consensus) and sometimes because of prejudicial misstatements made by attorneys or illnesses of key participants.
