Legislative guidelines that recommended the conditions and qualifications for jurisdictions to use in licensing social work practice. The National Association of Social Workers (NASW) developed the model law before most states had fully developed licensing laws for social work practice. Social workers and lobbyists with various state legislatures offered the Model Licensing Act to assist legislators in writing their own laws pertaining to social work licenses. The act specified what social work practice is and is not, outlined the recommended qualifications for doing it, and indicated the procedures to be taken to enforce compliance.
