The professional association formed in 1968, comprising black social workers and other social workers who are interested in the goals of the organization. These goals are to deal with problems pertinent to the black community on all levels, including working with clients, promoting programs serving African Americans, and assisting black social workers. NABSW holds annual conventions, performs research and educational functions, and publishes the journal Black Caucus.
