தனி நபர்களிடமும், தனி நபர்களுக்கிடையேயும் அவர்களுடைய உறவுகள் மற்றும் சூழ்நிலைகளை செழுமைப்படுத்தவும், சமூக வாழ்வில் ஒரு நிறைவை ஏற்படுத்தவும் செய்யப்படும் சேவைகள். இது எல்லோருக்குமாக வழங்கப்படும் சேவைகளான வருமானப் பராமரிப்பு (income maintenance program), கல்வி, வேலைவாய்ப்பு, வீட்டுவசதி, மருத்துவ வசதி போன்ற திட்டங்களிலிருந்து வேறுபட்டு, ஆலோசனை கூறல், வழிகாட்டுதல், பரஸ்பர உதவியை மேம்படுத்தும் சுய உதவிக்குழுக்கள், குடும்பக்கட்டுப்பாடு, முதியோர் மற்றும் குழந்தைகளுக்கான தனிப்பட்ட சேவைகளை உள்ளடக்கியது.

Social services with a basic purpose to enhance the relationships between people and between people and their environments and to provide opportunities for social fulfillment. Personal social services are distinguished from institutional services (income mainte- nance programs, health care, education, employment, and housing) and include counseling and guidance and development of mutual help and self-help groups, family planning, and services for older people and for children.
