ஆர்டிக் பகுதியில் வாழும் மக்களிடையே காணப்படும் கலாச்சாரத் தொடர்புடைய மனப்பிறழ்வுக் கோளாறு. இந்தக் கோளாறால் பாதிக்கப்படுபவர்கள் உடைகளைக் கிழித்தெறிந்தும், கெட்ட வார்த்தையில் கத்திக்கொண்டும், மலத்தை உண்டும், உறைபனிச் சூழலில் அம்மணமாக ஓடிக்கொண்டும் திரிவார்கள். ஏறக்குறைய 30 நிமிடங்கள் தொடரும் இந்த ஆவேசம் கொஞ்சம் கொஞ்சமாக அடங்கி வலிப்பு நிலைக்குச் சென்று, பின் 12 மணி நேரம் தொடர்ந்த மயக்கத்தில் இருப்பார்கள். உறைபனியில் அம்மணமாக ஒடும்போது அவர்கள் தடுத்து நிறுத்தப்படாவிட்டால், பணியில் உறைந்து மரணமடைவார்கள். மயக்கம் தெளிந்த பின் தாங்கள் எவ்வாறெல்லாம் நடந்துகொண்டோம் என்பது அவர்களுக்கு நினைவிருக்காது.

A culture-bound syndrome found most commonly among indigenous peoples of arctic and subarctic regions, in which the individual behaves irrationally and sometimes dangerously for up to 30 minutes shouting obscenities, tearing off clothing, eating feces, or fleeing. The behavior often follows a period of withdrawal or irritability and frequently ends in convulsive seizures and coma for up to 12 hours. The individual usually remembers nothing about the event.
