மருத்துவக் காப்பீட்டில் சிகிச்சைச் செலவுகளைத் திரும்பப் பெறவேண்டுமென்றால் சில சிகிச்சைகளுக்கு முன்னனுமதி பெறவேண்டும் என்ற நடைமுறை. மருத்துவக் காப்பீட்டு நிறுவனங்கள், ஆரோக்கியப் பராமரிப்பு அமைப்பு (நிலையான வருடாந்திரக் கட்டணத்தை சந்தாவாகப் பெற்றுக்கொண்டு, உறுப்பினர்களுக்கு விரிவான மருத்துவ (ஆரோக்கிய பாதுகாப்பு) சேவைகளை வழங்கும் மருத்துவக்குழு (health maintenance organizations (HMOs), தேர்ந்தெடுத்த சேவை வழங்குனர் (preferred provider organizations (PPOs) போன்ற சேவை வழங்குனர்கள் ஒரு நோய்க்குக் குறிப்பிட்ட முறையிலான சிகிச்சை அவசியமானதுதானா என்று கண்டறிய இந்த நடைமுறையைப் பின்பற்றுகின்றனர்.
