In social research, a systematically measured performance, rating, or score that is used to estimate the likelihood that a subsequent objective is accomplished. For example, many schools of social work require student applicants to take academic aptitude tests. The resulting scores are predictor variables to indicate the likelihood of a student's success in the program.
