மனித ஆற்றலை வலுப்படுத்தி, தனி மனிதனின் சமூக உளவியல் வலுவைப் பாதுகாத்து, நிலைப்படுத்தி, எதிர்பார்த்தோ எதிர்பாராமலோ எதிர்கொள்ளும் பிரச்சனைகளை எதிர்கொள்ளும் திறனை வளர்ப்பதை நோக்கமாகக் கொண்ட சமூகப்பணி. இது இழந்துவிட்ட ஒன்றை எடுத்துக்கட்டும் (rehabilitative) சமூகப்பணியை விட, இது ஒருவரை தகுதி பெறச் செய்யும் (ஒருவருடைய பிரச்சனையை அவராகவே தீர்த்துக்கொள்ளும் திறமையை வளர்த்தல்) முயற்சியாகும். இது பிரச்சனைகள் உருவானபின் எதிர்வினையாற்றும் முறையிலிருந்து மாறுபட்டு, பிரச்சனைகள் உருவாவதற்கு முன்னரே முன்வினையாற்றி, பிரச்சனைகளிலிருந்து விடுபட உதவி செய்யும்.

This approach emphasizes habilitation rather than rehabilitation and uses proactive rather than reactive measures in helping healthy clients remain that way.
