மக்களைப் பாதிக்கும் அல்லது அதிருப்தியுறவைக்கும் அரசு மற்றும் தனியார் நிறுவனங்களின் நடைமுறைகளையோ, கொள்கைகளையோ அல்லது சம்பவங்களையோ எதிர்த்தும் அல்லது ஒத்துழைக்க மறுத்தும் திட்டமிட்டுத் தெரிவிக்கப்படும் எதிர்ப்பு. சம்பந்தப்பட்டவர்களுக்குத் தங்கள் எதிர்ப்பை மக்கள் பலவழிகளில் வெளிக்காட்டுவர். வேலை நிறுத்தம், மறியல், பேரணி / ஊர்வலம் செல்லல், பிரச்சாரம் செய்தல் போன்ற வழிகளைக் கையாள்வர். எடுத்துக்காட்டாக, தமிழ் நாட்டில் கூடங்குளம் எதிர்ப்பியக்கம், கள் இறக்குவோர் ஆதரவு இயக்கம், மதுவிலக்கு இயக்கம், மணல் கொள்ளைக்கு எதிரான இயக்கம் போன்ற இயக்கங்களைச் சொல்லலாம்.

An organized effort by a part of the public to show dissatisfaction and possible noncompliance with a new law, policy, or situation. Those involved in the movement use a variety of tactics to inform their political leaders, policymakers, or people in positions of authority over them of their dissatisfaction. The tactics include strikes, propaganda, marches, and political action.
