public-interest group

An organization or collective of like-minded individuals seeking to influence the policies of governments, political candidates, agencies, or the general public toward changes that are believed to benefit the whole society rather than one special-interest group. Such groups often employ lobbyists to present their views through the use of a media event, legislative advocacy tactics, lobbying, political action committees (PACs), fundraising, and voter campaigns.
