ஒரு சமூகப்பணியாளர் தன் வாடிக்கையாளரின் மனக்கிடக்கைகளை வெளிக்கொண்டுவருமளவு அவருடன் உறவு முறையைப் பேணும் தொழில்நெறி. சில உணர்வுகளை வாடிக்கையாளர் வெளிப்படுத்தாத பட்சம் அந்த உணர்வுகளே / எண்ணங்களே அவரைப் பலவீனமாக்கி, வலுவிழக்கச் செய்துவிடும். ஆகையால் சமூகப்பணியாளர் காரியப்பாட்டுடன் தனது வாடிக்கையாளரின் எண்ணங்குலைக்க ஏற்றவாறு உரையாடியும், கேள்விகளைக் கேட்டும், அவர் சொல்வதை கவனமுடன் கேட்டும், வாடிக்கையாளர் பதில்சொல்லத் தயங்கும் கேள்விகளையும், மதிப்பீடுகளையும் தவிர்க்கவேண்டும்.

One of the fundamental elements of the social worker-client relationship, in which the social worker encourages the client to communicate certain emotions. The client is helped to express those emotions that may be debilitating when not communicated. The worker encourages purposeful expression of feelings by listening, asking relevant questions, listening intently to answers, and avoiding any behavior that seems intolerant or judgmental.
