rate review

A procedure in which third party funding organizations such as government or insurance companies attempt to contain the costs of health care and social services by periodically evaluating the charges and procedures made by providers. The third parties and providers agree in advance about how much to charge for each specified service, and this is reconsidered usually every year. See also fourth party.
