reading disorder

A type of learning disorder in which there is a deficiency in reading skills not resulting from limited education or cultural deprivation. The person may lack these skills because of visual or hearing impairment, cognitive or intellectual functions, or organic mental disorders. If the individual has been unable to develop reading skills, the condition is known as developmental reading disorder. See also dyslexia.
