சமூக உளவியல் மதிப்பீடுகளில், ஒரு நபரை எத்துணை முறை சோதித்தாலும் ஒரே சீரான, முரண்பாடில்லாத, நம்பத்தகுந்த மதிப்பீடுகளைப் பெறுவது. பரிசோதனைகளில் அப்பரிசோதனை எத்தனை முறை மீள் ஆய்வுக்கு உட்படுத்தப்பட்டாலும், அதன் முடிவுகள் சீரானதாகவும், நிலைத்த தன்மையோடும் இருப்பது நமபகத்தன்மையைக் குறிக்கும்.

1. In psychosocial assessment, the individual's degree of dependability and consistency. 2. In social research, the dependability and consistency of scores on a test that is repeated over time with the same group. Researchers use three types of reliability: (1) test-retest reliability, (2) split- half reliability (the correlation between the scores achieved by a group of subjects in one part of a test and the group's scores on another similar part of the same test), and (3) interrater reliability.
