அமெரிக்காவிலும், ஐரோப்பாவிலும் வாழும் கரீபிய இனமக்களிடையே காணப்படும் கலாச்சார நம்பிக்கை சார்ந்த நோய். காரணமின்றிப் பதட்டம், பயம், தலைசுற்றல் மற்றும் உடல்ரீதியான அசதி போன்ற அறிகுறிகள் தென்படுவதை, அவருக்கு வேண்டாதவர்கள் சூன்யம் வைத்ததால் வந்ததன் விளைவு என்று நம்புவது. இதைத் தீர்க்க மருத்துவரை நாடாமல், சூன்யத்தை எடுக்கும் ஆற்றலுள்ள மந்திரவாதியை அழைத்து வந்து சூன்யத்தை அல்லது துரதிர்ஷ்டத்தை நீக்குதல்.

A culture-bound syndrome found most commonly among Caribbean societies and people of the southern United States of European and African ancestry in which the individual is believed to be placed under a spell or hex. This results in the individual experiencing anxiety, fears, dizziness, and various somatic complaints until the "root doctor" removes the hex or root.
