குறிப்பிட்ட சமூகச் சூழலிலும், சில உறவாடல்களிலும் மனிதர்களின் வெளிப்படையான எதிர்பார்ப்புகளுக்கு மாறான விளைவுகளை ஏற்படுத்தும் நடத்தைப் பாங்குகளின் காரணத்தை விளக்க எரிக் பெர்ன் (Eric berne) என்ற மனவியலாளர் பயன்படுத்திய சொல்லாடல். மனித நடத்தைகளும், அதன் விளைவுகளும் முன்கூட்டி தீர்மானிக்கப்பட்ட பதிவுகளின் (Life Scripts - கதை வசனத்தின்) அடிப்படையிலே நிகழ்வதாக எரிக் பெர்ன் கண்டறிந்தார். எல்லோருக்கும் வாழ்க்கைப் பதிவுகள் உண்டென்றும், அதுவே நடத்தைகளையும் விளைவுகளையும் தீர்மானிக்கிறதென்றும், அதிலிருந்து மீளவேண்டுமென்றால் வாழ்க்கைப் பதிவுகளைப் பகுத்தாராய வேண்டுமென்றும் விளக்கிய கோட்பாடுதான் பரிமாற்றப் பகுப்பாய்வு (Transactional Analysis) கோட்பாடு.

Characteristic patterns of behavior that tend to accompany specific social situations or relationships and that are often followed despite the fact that they can lead to outcomes that are inconsistent with the individual's overt objectives. The term was popularized through transactional analysis (TA) theory, which is partly built around an examination and analysis of these patterns, the circumstances in which they occur, and their consequences.
