குறைந்த வருமானமுள்ள வீடற்ற ஏழைகள், தனியாருக்குச் சொந்தமான வீடுகளில் வாடகைக்குக் குடியிருக்கவும், அரசால் புனரமைக்கப்பட்ட வீடுகளில் குடியிருக்கவும் அமெரிக்க அரசின் வீட்டு வசதி மற்றும் நகரமைப்புத் துறை அமல்படுத்தும் திட்டம். குறைந்த வருவாயுள்ள ஒரு ஏழைக்குடும்பம் தன்னால் கொடுக்கமுடிந்த வாடகையை விட, தனியாருக்குச் சொந்தமான ஒரு வீட்டின் சந்தை வாடகை மதிப்பு அதிகமாக இருக்கும் பட்சம், அதிகமான வாடகையை அரசே கொடுக்கும் நடைமுறை.

A program administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (DHUD) to help poor people live in homes in the private sector. One Section 8 program helps low-income renters by paying the difference between what they can afford and the fair-market rent for a living unit. Some Section 8 units are in new or rehabilitated housing, but most are in existing structures.
