கணவன் அல்லது மனைவி இருவரில் ஒருவரும், அவரின் குழந்தைகளையும் கொண்ட ஒரு குடும்ப அலகை ஒற்றைப் பெற்றோர் குடும்பம் எனலாம். ஒற்றைப் பெற்றோர், குழந்தைகள் பராமரிப்பிற்கான முழுப்பொறுப்பையும் ஏற்றுக்கொண்டு செயல்படுவர். இம்மாதிரியான குடும்பத்தை, மாற்றாந் தாயுடனோ அல்லது மாற்றாந் தந்தையுடனோ, அல்லது வேறு வகையிலான துணையுடனோ வாழும் குடும்பத்தோடு குழப்பிக்கொள்ளக்கூடாது.

A family unit and household comprising the children and the mother or father but not the other spouse. This family unit is not to be confused with the reconstituted family, in which the children and one parent are joined by a stepparent and perhaps that person's children.
