The reform movement that occurred in the United States beginning in the 1870s under the sponsorship of Protestant leaders to advocate for improved conditions among workers, abolition of child labor, occupational protections for women, and the right to living wages. The movement declined when its goals were taken over by organized labor and by the federal programs established in the 1930s.
