social phobia

An intense, continuous, and unreasonable fear of being observed or evaluated. Victims of this anxiety disorder are most commonly afraid of public speaking or performing before audiences, using public lavatories or bathing facilities, or eating in restaurants. Typically, they fear they will show anxiety and be humiliated, a condition that often leads to the outcome they fear (a self-fulfilling prophecy). See also specific phobia.
