ஒரு தாயின் வயிற்றிலோ அல்லது ஒரு தந்தைக்குப் பிறக்காமலோ, உயிரியல் ரீதியான தொடர்பு இல்லாவிட்டாலும் கூட, குடும்பத்தில் சகோதர, சகோதர பொறுப்பு வகித்தல். ஒரு குழந்தையின் தாயை இன்னொரு குழந்தையின் தந்தை மணம் செய்யும் போது இந்த உறவுமுறை தோன்றுகிறது. மாற்றாம் உடன்பிறப்புகள் குழந்தைகளாகவும், ஒரே வீட்டில் வசிப்பவார்களாகவும் இருக்க வேண்டியதில்லை.

An individual whose family role is that of a brother or sister even though there is no biological connection. The stepsibling relationship occurs primarily when a mother of one child marries the father of another child. Stepsiblings may or may not live in the same home and may or may not be children.
