போதைப் பொருட்களை அளவுக்குமீறி எடுத்துக்கொள்ளும் போது உடனடியாகவோ அல்லது ஓரிரு மணிகளிலோ ஏற்படும் சித்தப்பிரமை. போதை குறையும் போது இந்த சித்தப்பிரமையும், போதையின் தன்மைக்கேற்ப ஓரிரு மணி நேரத்திலோ ஓரிரு நாட்களிலோ குறையும். போதையின் பின்விளைவு (hangover), போதைப் பொருள் மற்றும் உபயோகிப்பவரின் உடல் தன்மைக்கேற்ப மாறுபடும். எ.கா. மதுவெறி, கள்மயக்கம்.

A delirium that occurs within minutes to hours after taking relatively high doses of medication or other substances. The delirium usually ends as the intoxication ends or within a few hours to days. A formal diagnosis of this condition would specify the type of substance, as in "alcohol intoxication delirium". See also substance-use disorders.
