ஒன்றோடொன்று தொடர்புடைய பெரிய அமைப்பில் உள்ளடங்கிய ஒரு கூறு. ஒரு பெரிய அமைப்பின் ஒரு கூறாக ஒன்றோடொன்று இணைந்தும், அதே நேரத்தில் தனி அடையாளத்துடன் சுயாதீனமாகச் செயல்பட்டும், பெரிய அமைப்பின் செயல்பாட்டை முழுமையாக்க உதவும் துணை அமைப்பு. எடுத்துக்காட்டாகக் குடும்பம் என்ற பெரிய அமைப்பில் பெற்றோர், குழந்தைகள், உறவினர்கள் என்பது துணை அமைப்புகள்.

A part of a system that itself comprises interacting and reciprocally influencing elements. For example, in the family system such subsystems are the parents, the children, the females, the males, the nuclear family system, and the extended family system.
