1. supression எரிக்சனின் உள சமூகவியல் கோட்பாடு repression பிராய்டின் உள இயக்கவியல் கோட்பாடு. இரண்டும் ஏறக்குறைய ஒரே மாதிரி பொருளைத்தந்தாலும், எரிக்சனின் ஒடுக்குதல் (suppression) பிரக்ஞை பூர்வமானது. விரும்பத்தகாத எண்ணங்களை, சம்பவங்களை நினைவுகளிலிருந்து பிரக்ஞை பூர்வமாக அகற்றுவது. பிராய்டின் ஒடுக்குதல் (repression) ஒரு உளப் பாதுகாப்புப் பொறிமுறை (defense mechanism). விரும்பத்தகாத எண்ணங்களை, ஏமாற்றங்களை, அவமானத்தை ஒருவர் தன்னையறியாமல் தன்னுடைய ஆழ்மனதிற்கு அனுப்பிவிடுவது. அது அகற்றப்படுவதிலை ஆனால் புதைக்கப்படுகிறது. 2. சமூக முரண்பாடுகளின் / சச்சரவுகளின் போது, ஒரு குழுவினர், தங்களுக்கு எதிராகச் செயல்படும் இன்னொரு குழுவினரைத் தங்கள் செல்வாக்கால், அரசியல் அதிகாரத்தால் அச்சுறுத்தியோ, அவர்களை ஒன்றுகூட விடாமல் தடுத்தோ, அவர்களின் கருத்துக்களை இருட்டடிப்பு செய்தோ ஒடுக்குதல்.

Suppression is similar to repression, except that the latter is a defense mechanism operating unconsciously to remove threatening ideas from one's awareness. 2. In social conflict theories, actions taken by one group or organization to prevent other groups or individuals from expressing their ideas, from assembling, or from developing political power.
