transegoic model

A conceptual framework used in transpersonal social work to help clients confront the reality of their personal mortality. The intervention generally follows five stages: (1) recognizing and accepting the normality of death and resolving prior grief and fear; (2) developing faith in the existential self by discovering one's meaning in life and identifying the Will or the I, instead of one's roles; (3) discovering that there is meaning in death; and (4) acknowledging the transpersonal self and discovering the transpersonal mission. The model is used primarily with clients with terminal illness in one-to-one or structured group settings.
