transpersonal psychology

An orientation in the philosophies and therapies related to psychology that emphasizes spirituality, moral development, and human connectedness with the cosmos. Its focus is on the next level beyond self-actualization to the relationship between humans and all the natural and spiritual components of the universe. The transpersonal orientation draws on Eastern philosophies that recognize intuitive and mystical experiences and other sources of "transrational" wisdom. This orientation is considered the fourth force in psychology after the psychoanalytic, behavioral, and humanistic orientations.
