குடும்பச் சிகிச்சையில் ஒரே ஒரு குடும்ப உறுப்பினரை மட்டும் கலந்துகொள்ள வைத்துக் கொடுக்கப்படும் உள சமூக சிகிச்சை முறை. ஒரு குடும்பத்தில் உள்ள பிரச்சனையினால் ஒட்டுமொத்தக் குடும்பமும் பாதிக்கப்பட்டிருந்தாலும், பிரச்சனைக்குக் காரணமான முக்கிய நபரோ / நபர்களோ சிகிச்சை அல்லது ஆலோசனைக்கு உட்படாதபோது / விரும்பாத போது, அக்குடும்பத்திலுள்ள ஒரு நபரைக் கொண்டு வழங்கப்படும் சிகிச்சை. குடும்பத்திலுள்ள ஒருநபரில் ஏற்படும் மாற்றம், ஒட்டுமொத்த குடும்பத்திலும் மாற்றத்தை ஏற்படுத்தும் என்ற குடும்ப சிகிச்சை முறையின் அனுமானத்தை அடிப்படையாகக் கொண்டு வழங்கப்படும் சிகிச்சை.

Psychosocial treatment of a family even though only one family member is present or directly involved in the therapeutic intervention. This is sometimes necessary when pathology exists within the family, affecting all its members, but key participants in the pathology refuse therapeutic intervention. A basic premise of family therapy is that a change in one member will result in a change in all members, so it is possible to help the whole family without seeing each member.
