The program established in 1941 to coordinate the recreational, social, and welfare services given by six private voluntary agencies (Young Men's Christian Association [YMCA], Young Women's Christian Association [YWCA], Traveler's Aid, the Salvation Army, Catholic Community Service, and Jewish social agencies) to members of the U.S. armed services.
