A list of conditions that are not specific mental disorders but are included in the American Psychiatric Association's DSM-IV because they are frequent reasons for which individuals seek the services of mental health professionals. The V Code conditions and their numbers include the following: relational problems, including those with siblings (V61.8), partners (V61.1), parent-child (V61.20), and those relational problems related to a mental disorder or general medical condition (V61.9); problems related to abuse or neglect, including physical or sexual abuse or neglect of a child (V61.21) or physical or sexual abuse of an adult (V61.1); noncompliance with treatment (V15.81); malingering (V65.2); adult antisocial behavior (V71.01); child or adolescent antisocial behavior (V71.02); borderline intellectual functioning (V62.89); age-related cognitive decline (V780.9); bereavement (V62.82); academic problem (V62.3); occupational problem (V62.2); identity problem (V313.82); religious or spiritual problem (V62.89); acculturation problem (V62.4); and phase-of-life problem (V62.89). Organizations that make a third-party payment tend to reject treatment reimbursement claims if these are the sole reasons for treatment.
