The VHA provides acute medical, surgical, and psychiatric inpatient and outpatient care, nursing homes, professional outpatient services, and other health care through its 171 medical centers accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and 340 outpatient clinics.
