WASP

A term used sometimes disparagingly in referring to white Anglo- Saxon Protestants, virtually the only population group whose male members are not considered "minorities" or socially disadvantaged. Actually, the term also is frequently applied to white people who are Catholics and to people of non-English European ancestry-that is, white nonethnics. The "WASP" label often is used to imply that there is a single lifestyle (bland and comfortably affluent), political orientation (conservatism), and economic value orientation (social Darwinism) among these people, even though they are highly disparate in these characteristics.
