Benefits, requirements, or special aid to encourage people to seek and retain suitable employment and to encourage employer organizations to hire and keep people on the job. Work incentives for individuals include such programs as day care, higher wages (made possible by government subsidy), reduction or termination of welfare payments for those who refuse to work, and improvements in the work environment. Work incentives for employer organizations include tax breaks for hiring and retaining specified numbers or categories of people (as in experience ratings), direct payments to subsidize wages paid, and stimulation of the general economy to allow the organization to employ more workers.
