தாங்கள் செய்யும் வேலையின் மூலமாக மிகச் சொற்ப சம்பளமே பெறுவதால், வேறு உடமைகளற்று, வறுமைக்கோட்டிற்கு மேலெழ முடியாத ஏழைகள். உழைக்கும் வறியவர்கள், உணவு உதவி அட்டை பெறவும், வேறு சில நலத்திட்டங்களை அவர்களின் ஏழ்மை நிலைத் தகுதியை வைத்துப் பெறமுடிந்தாலும், வீட்டு வசதி, மருத்துவ உதவி மற்றும் பிற நலத்திட்ட உதவிகளைப் பெற முடிவதில்லை.

Employed people whose assets and incomes from their jobs are so low that they fall below the poverty line. Although working poor people may be eligible for food stamps and some other means-tested programs, they often have limited access to housing, health care, or other necessities.
